Project Clean Stream
- This program gives hands-on experience in STEM and to explore career opportunities before committing to an area of study in college. The ASPIRE program is a learning experience that exposes students to the real-world applications of what they are learning in school as well as to what it is like to work in a professional environment. There are virtual and hybrid opportunities being planned for this year.
- Concentrations include: Aerospace Engineering & Planetary Science, Applied Physics, Biology & Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology & Cybersecurity, and Mathematics & Data Analysis
- Biology & Chemistry concentration has extremely limited placements

- Eligibility: Current sophomores and juniors, U.S. citizen, 2.8 unweighted GPA, no criminal record

Department of Navy Laboratories Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Program
- This is a 8-week summer internship in science & engineering that aims to encourage high school students to pursue careers in these fields, further their education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN. There is a $3,500 stipend for new students and $4,000 stipend for returning students.
- Summer 2021 research will take place either in-person in Office of Naval Research laboratories or virtually.Must be 16 or older at time of application (graduating seniors are eligible to apply).

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center High School & Undergraduate Summer Volunteer Program
- This opportunity is an 8-week, full-time summer internship that runs from mid-June to mid-August. Students conduct independent research projects under guidance of a research scientist. The projects are centered on cancer research & cellular biology. The goal of this program is to encourage students to pursue a career in biological science with an emphasis on cancer research. If you enjoy science and have a strong desire to explore and discover the world around you, this is a great opportunity for you!

J. Craig Venter Institute Internship Program
- An 8-to-12 week full-time summer internship, May through August. This opportunity includes scientific research, seminars, and workshops. The workshops are meant to help students develop scientific and professional skills. All 2020 JCVI summer internships were cancelled, but keep an eye on the program for the upcoming year.
- Internship positions are usually posted in February/March, applications are reviewed in April, and acceptances are confirmed mid-April.
- The majority of internships are offered during the summer months. On occasion, part-time internships may be offered during the academic year. If so, these positions will be posted through the career center. Semester internships run between 8-12 weeks.
- Must be 16 or older at least 1 month prior to program start date.

Johns Hopkins Summer Junior Volunteer Program/Internship
- This is an opportunity for you to spend six weeks of discovery in an administrative, lab, or patient and family-centered care position within the Hospital. You can choose which department you want to work in and will have the opportunity to work as a shadow to doctors.
- To be considered for the program, all prospective volunteers must complete the 2020 Summer Junior Volunteer Application online. The application will include a parental consent form, 3 required essays, and 3 unique letter of recommendation form.
- There will be an initial screening interview for all accepted potential Summer Junior Volunteers. Potential volunteers moving forward in the process will schedule and attend a second interview with their designated department. After completing the two interviews successfully, an applicant's eligibility for the Summer Junior Volunteer Program will be determined. If an applicant is accepted, an email will be sent to them with an acceptance letter.

JHU Pre-College Engineering Program
- Johns Hopkins University is pleased to offer two pre-college programs this summer for high school students: Engineering Innovation and Biomedical Engineering Innovation.

NASA High School Internship Opportunities
- NASA internships and fellowships leverage NASA’s unique missions and programs to enhance and increase the capability, diversity and size of the nation’s future STEM workforce. Internships are available from high school to graduate level. Internships provide students with the opportunity to participate in either research or other experiential learning, under the guidance of a mentor at NASA.
- Concentrations include topics in meteorology, astronomy, geology, data & statistics, and journalism

National Human Genome Research Institute
- The program immerses students in a unique environment devoted to better-understanding the underlying causes of human genetic disease, leading to the development of novel methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of heritable and genetic disorders. Students receive training and mentoring in the laboratory.
- Eligibility: Enrolled at least half-time in high school or college (Graduating high school seniors must provide a letter of admission from the college that they will be attending the following fall), Citizens or permanent residents of the United States, at least 17 years old

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biomedical Research Internships
- High School SIP (HS-SIP) provides an opportunity to spend a summer working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research.
- Selected students most often earn a monthly stipend based on education level & experience
- College students apply to the Summer Internship Program (SIP), which differs from the High School Summer Internship Program (HS-SIP)

Project Clean Stream
- This opportunity offers hands-on opportunities through our partnership with residents, local businesses, environmental organizations, local governments, community groups, houses of worship, schools and universities, to come together to take action to restore clean waters to local waterways. Volunteers have the opportunity to pick-up trash in their communities, discover how their everyday decisions affect the overall health of their local waterways, and ultimately foster a healthier and more sustainable relationship with the Chesapeake.
- Project Clean Stream kicks off on September 11th, 2020 in honor of the National Day of Service and Remembrance with cleanups taking place across the watershed, and will run through Fall of 2020
